Regularly visit your dentist
Be sure to maintain a commitment to visit your dentist every six months for regular cleanings and checkups. Especially as you grow older, preventative maintenance and catching issues before they get out of control is extremely important.
Wash your dentures daily
If you have full or partial dentures, it is important to care for them every single day. Bacteria can, and will, stick to your dentures. This can lead to serious problems if not addressed daily. Be sure to use a cleaning agent that is specially designed for dentures. You should remove them from your mouth for at least four hours every day. It is easy to do this if you simply take them out while you sleep. Take special care to not use ordinary toothpaste on your dentures, as this can damage them.
Maintain a daily oral health routine
No matter how old you are, you should be brushing and flossing daily. This is especially important as you get older, because the nerves in your teeth shrink as you age. This means that you won’t feel the pain from a tooth problem as soon as you would have earlier in life. However, just because you don’t feel the pain, doesn’t mean that there isn’t a problem. In fact, since you don’t feel the pain until the problem progresses, you often miss the window for restorative procedures.
